    Skills and abilities
We can define a skill as the capacity of the student to acquire the knowledge and the abilities, in a cross-curricular setting, in different contexts and situations, enhancing comprehension, reflexing and interaction. At the end of the period, students should have acquired the following skills:

    • COMMUNICATIVE SKILLS:

. 1. Linguistic and audiovisual: oral communication (speaking and listening) and written communication by using new technologies and showing a good command of foreign languages. This competency involves knowledge of cultural and linguistic di-versity as well as the use of the necessary strategies to interact with others.
Implica el coneixement de la diversitat cultural i el de les regles de funcionament de la diversitat lingüística, així com les estratègies necessàries per interactuar d'una manera adequada.

. Artistic and cultural skills: this competency involves knowing, understanding, being appreciative and critical of the different artistic and cultural manifestations. This is a way of enrichment as they are a very important part of the culture of a country or region.

  • METHODOLOGICAL SKILLS:

  • . Information Management and Digital Competence: It involves managing information correctly, transmitting it using digital supports and using the TICs as the channel to obtain the information, to learn and to communicate.
This competence involves a high degree of critical thinking to re-flect on the information received and to contrast it when neces-sary. It highlights the importance of the virtual learning communities.

. Mathematical competence: Necessary skills to understand, use and relate numbers, basic mathematical operations, symbolism and different ways of expression. This will be very important to understand and solve problems and situations related to daily life, scientific knowledge and social and work force.

. Learning to learn: It involves acquiring awareness, management and control over one’s own capacities and knowledge in an efficient way. It comprises strategic thinking which includes capacity to cooperate, self-evaluation, and the efficient management of resources and work techniques.

  • PERSONAL SKILLS:

  • .Autonomy and Personal Initiative: it consists of being able to apply certain values and personal attitudes: Responsibility, perseverance, self-knowledge, self-esteem, creativity and self-criticism, emotional control and learning from mistakes.

  • SPECIFIC SKILLS FOCUSED ON COEXISTENCE AND LIVING IN OUR WORLD

  • . Knowledge and interaction with the physical world: Development and application of the scientific and technological thinking in order to interpret the information we receive so that there is an effective decision making process in a world which is going through constant and rapid changes. These changes have a strong influence on our lives.

.Social and citizenship skills: Capacity to be able to understand the current social reality, to manage conflicts in a successful way, to respect democracy, to work towards peace and to be solidary with others.

    Languages project
Our school ensures that the linguistic competence is achieved in Catalan and Spanish and enhances the importance of foreign languages learning, especially English. There are three hours in the common core dedicated to English learning together with a strong presence of CLIL (different subjects taught in English): The CLIL program goes as follows:
    Year Science Arts & Crafts
    1 1h 2h
    2 1h 2h
    3 1h 2h
    4 1h 2h
    5 1h 1h
    6 1h 1h
During the 5th and the 6th year of Primary students also participate in different activities organised by external institutions like the “The Fonix” which is a contest for all the schools of Catalonia. As for other foreign languages, students of 5th and 6th of Primary take 1 semester of French and 1 semester of German. The idea is that they can decide if they want to continue with a second foreign language during their years in ESO.
    Methodological strategies for the classroom
    • CO-TEACHING

Our school has introduced co-teaching in a very progressive way. Co-teaching is a great chance for team work since it requires two teachers working together, planning and teaching in the same classroom. This system responds to our wish to improve the quality of learning through teaching. It involves enhancing the attention to the needs of each student and reinforcing the concept of inclusion in our school.

The Co-teaching in Primary school is applied as follows:

    -  Catalan and Maths (2 hours each subject).

    -  English Workshop at 4th, 5th & 6th grades (1 hour each level).

    - Science at 4th & 5th (1 hour each level).

    • Team work

Team work involves a direct implication of teachers and students and requires a tremendous effort to relate to others and to open their minds. However, it shows a lot of advantages for all involved. The main characteristics of team work are the following:

    - Direct interaction among students. They learn what they decide to learn and the participation in the learning process becomes more active.

    - Cooperation among students helps to improve the learning pro-cess of the student: there is a more and better learning.

Increase in the autonomy of the student and work on compe-tences like debate, negotiation, respect, solidarity and democracy.

The characteristics of cooperative work are:

    - Working together towards a common goal.

    - Equality.

    - Servant-leadership.

    - Celebration of successes together, accepting failure together.

    • Work stations

This methodology is present in all the years of Primary school af-ter being mastered in Kindergarten, through Catalan and Math (2 hours per week). These stations are on a rotating basis, so that all students can work on all.

    • Arithmetics

Included in the Math Curriculum, this method is used in the 1st and 2nd year of Primary. This method consists of mental stimula-tion for kids through the use of the Japanese abacus and through activities which stimulate mental calculations.

One of the main advantages of the method is that it helps the students not to think about Math in an abstract way, but as a way closer to reality. This also influences results since the student is more self-confident to approach the subject.

The method works in itineraries. When the students finish an itin-erary, he or she can go to the next level. Through the itinerary students work on numeric skills by using the Japanese abacus and are constantly developing activities where creativity, imagination and logic are enhanced.

This method allows the student to complete the Math tasks more efficiently and improving his/her abilities to calculate more complex operations or to solve problems more efficiently.

    • Natural Science projects

These projects are based upon a method which enhances the skills of each one of the students, making them responsible for their own learning process. Students learn how to think in a criti-cal way, how to do research and how to learn from mistakes. They can choose the topics to work on so the motivation can in-crease in each one of them (learning to learn). These projects are included in the Science curriculum in year 4th and 5th. There are 2 teachers in the classroom (co-teaching).

    New technologies
Our society is constantly moving forward and going through rapid changes with the school being the place where we aim to educate our students for this society we also need to move forward and embrace the necessary changes. The teacher cannot just transmit knowledge or help the students to solve problems. The new information technologies and the digital competence are vital for the long-life learning. To meet this challenge our school is taking the following actions:
    • Increase the number of computers, laptops, interactive white-boards, projectors.
    • Improve the connectivity in all the buildings
    • Robotics and Code in all the Primary years
    • Google for education (4th, 5h and 6th year of Primary): students are assigned a password to access their email accounts, drive…
